Prevention of complications in the treatment of open tibial fractures of patients with multiple and combinedinjuries

Author studied the results of treatment 94 cases of open tibial fractures occurring in multiple and combined injuries in 82 patients.
In open multi-fragment comminuted fractures of the tibia with high risk of traumatic osteomyelitis, the formation of primary bone defect and growing regenerate by Ilizarov possible to substantially reduce the number of cases of traumatic osteomyelitis from 22,2% to 8,6%, false joint and delayed consolidation – from 11,1% to 6,5%, amputation – by 1,7 times. The limb deformities, contractures, traumatic neuritis and thrombophlebitisalso significantly reduced.
Immediate and long-term results of treatment were studied in 40 (76,9%) patients of main group with 46 (76,6%) fractures and in 22 (73,3%) patients in the control group with 27 (79,4%) open fractures of the tibia. Fracture healing in patients of main groupoccurred in 40 (86,9%) cases, of control group – in 21 (77,7%).
