Optimization of diagnostic tactics and treatment patients with foreign bodies of the rectum

The article presents the results of a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of 54 patients with foreign bodies of the rectum (FBR) and damage its wall.

FB in the anal canal were in 21 (26,2%) patients, at ampullar part – in 14 (33,2%), at middle part – in 6 (14,1%), in upper ampullar part – in 10 (19,1%) and 5 (7,4%) – FB migrated to sigmoid intestine.

FB sizes varied from a few millimeters to a large size (from 5 cm to 35 cm and more).

Complications was noted in 26 (48,1%) of 54 patients with FB and in 10 (38,4%) cases for FB removing surgery was performed. In the remaining 28 (51,8%) cases were no complications from the intestine and perineum, and when removed FB were effectively used: transanal bloodless intervention – in 16 (57,1%) cases, endoscopic – 5 (17,8%) and transanal intervention sphincterotomy – 7 (25%).

According to our objective selection criteria FB extraction methods managed to significantly improve the results of treatment, and the postoperative complications decreased to 7,5% and

mortality – up to 2%.
