The results of researchvegetative regulation condition in isolated systolic hypertension (ISHT) in elderly age with clinical significance of autonomic regulation dysfunction and its evaluation in the pathogenesis of this hypertension are presented.

Study of frequency of occurrences of vegetative regulation types showed the following relationship: in 30 (75.0%) patients - relative sympathicotonia, in 4 (10.0%) - a balanced type, and in 6 cases (15.0%) – the tendency to greater frequency of vagotonic type. In the spectrum of neuro-humoral regulation in patients with isolated systolic hypertension clearly noted a higher proportion of high-frequency variation.

Sympathetic-parasympathetic balance, which is a reflection of the ratio LF / HF, was significantly shifted to relative predominance of low-frequency component of 1.1 versus 4.4 in control group, which is a unfavorable prognostic factor. This dysfunction of the vegetative nervous system is considered as a possible risk factor in pathogenesis of isolated systolic hypertension in older groups.

Keywords: cardiovascular disease, arterial hypertension, heart rate variability, a dysfunction of the vegetative nervous system.
