Modern concepts of combined oral contraceptives in adolescence

The review sets out the modern idea of combined oral contraceptives (COC) in the adolescent period. Hormonal contraception is the most reliable method of reversible pregnancy control with almost 100% efficiency and, therefore, is one of the leading birth control methods. The versatile clinical effects of the COC make it first choice protection from unwanted pregnancies in sexually active adolescents. These effects are preventive as well as therapeutic for anemia, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, functional ovarian cysts, and pelvic inflammatory disease.
