Advanced age is associated with significant changes in the cardiovascular system, which include a decreased adaptive capacity and an elevated risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). Analyzing heart rate variability (HRV) is an essential tool for assessing the state of the autonomic nervous

system (ANS) and predicting CVD risk.

A review of publications from 2010 to 2024 was conducted using the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases. The inclusion criteria for the review were publications written in Russian or English; studies involving elderly patients (aged 60 and older); articles that assessed HRV in relation to CVD; and publications that provided full texts. The exclusion criteria included articles published before 2010; reports of isolated clinical cases; studies that did not include data on elderly patients; and redundant publications. Out of 686 sources reviewed, 52 publications met the specified criteria.

Keywords: Heart rate variability, old age, cardiovascular diseases, arterial hypertension, coronary artery disease, chronic heart failure.
