Prevalence of HIV co-infection and parenteral transmitted viral hepatitis in the Kyrgyz Republic

This article presents the results of 220 HIV-patients with antibody positive test examined for the presence of markers of hepatitis B and C by immunosorbent method. In 58% of the markers in chronic HS and 10% - with chronic HBV infection were found.

The most susceptible group of people to co-infected HC infection are injecting drug users (IDUs). The frequency of co-infection among injecting drug users accounted for 56% of all cases of co-infection, simultaneous HC and HB infection - 53%. Quite a high proportion of co-infection in the Osh region among those examined for clinical indications (HC and HB + HC), which was 26% and 21% respectively, and is not a category of behavioral risk of parenteral infection. The findings suggest that high frequency of co-infection with HIV and VH in the Kyrgyz Republic.
